CALL ME LYSS

My name is Lyss and I call Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania home. Prior to Pittsburgh, I grew up in southern California and spent summers in New Mexico with family. The contrast in my environments- from the rural and rustic beauty of the desert in New Mexico to the bold and industrial qualities of the city found in Pittsburgh- is where I draw my inspiration from. I originally dove into art thanks to my grandpa who became a professional artist after serving as a Marine in the Vietnam War. He inspired me to use art to express myself instead of bottling up emotions and inspiration.

Currently, I am inspired by the human form, bold contrasts, and the crispness of lines. I do not yet know how to define myself as an artist and I try to paint or draw when I need to convey a memory or an emotion. Currently I'm exploring different mediums to incorporate texture in my paintings to heighten contrast.
